The Khumi Affairs Coordination Council (KACC) issued a statement on September 7 demanding the cessation of fighting in Paletwa region of Chin State to pave the way for the success of the coming November election.

It highlights the importance of security for voters and regional peace and stability so that the general election scheduled on November 8 can be successfully held in Paletwa Township.

The council suggests that the Myanmar military and Arakan Army stop fighting while the latter should avoid military operations, arresting, mobilizing and recruiting local Chin youths in the township.

The statement also urges the Chin State government to take necessary security measures for successfully holding the election in the township after seeking coordination with security organizations.

It calls on all responsible organizations to work for the successful election as a token of showing goodwill towards the local people.

“We request security forces to help ensure a successful election. We are in the conflict area. If we have no parliamentary representatives in the next five years, we would suffer. This is our request,” said an official from KACC.

Parliamentary candidates from the National League for Democracy, Union Solidarity and Development Party, Chin National League for Democracy, United Democratic Party, Khumi (Khami) National Party and Ethnic National Development Party and one independent candidate will be running for election in Paletwa Township
