New Delhi (The Statesman) - Ahead of high-level exchanges between the two countries leading to the informal summit between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Xi Jinping, India and China, on Monday, held their 6th round of dialogue on disarmament and non-proliferation at the foreign office here.

The two sides exchanged views on a variety of issues of mutual interest related to disarmament, non-proliferation and arms control, the External Affairs Ministry said.

The dialogue was held within the framework of regular bilateral exchanges between India and China. The Indian delegation was led by Indra Mani Pandey, Additional Secretary (Disarmament & International Security Affairs), in the ministry while the Chinese delegation was headed by Ambassador Fu Cong, Director General, Department of Arms Control at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

They decided to continue the dialogue at regular intervals in future. Ambassador Fu Cong invited the Indian delegation to Beijing for the next round of consultations at a mutually convenient time.

India and China are currently discussing the schedule for the exchange of high-level visits at the level of senior officials and ministers. The foreign ministers of the two countries will jointly lead the high-level mechanism on people-to-people contacts and cultural exchanges in August-September in Beijing. The two foreign ministers will also prepare the ground for the second informal summit between PM Modi and President Xi sometime in October. The first such summit was held in the Chinese city of Wuhan in April last year.
