The government alone cannot solve all problems and the people need to help the government, said State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi in a speech delivered at Mawlamyaing on April 4.

“I accept that the government in responsible for each of the citizens. I totally accept that the government bears responsibility to find solutions for those who have no land to make a living or a place to live. I don’t dispute with those claims. However, people need to help solve the problems. It cannot be possible that the government alone can solve all problems. But people can and need to ask their rights which they should enjoy written within the law. We encourage them. We will assist them. But don’t act with dishonesty. It will affect the country,” said the State Counsellor.

If a citizen commits dishonest acts, it will affect the country. If the country is prosperous, it will made all of us prosper. People need to bear in their mind that if one is not good, it will not be good for the country,” she said.

“Our country will develop quickly if we have are in those states of mind. Some developed countries over the world are very small in area such as Switzerland and Singapore. They have little number of natural resources. However, people in those countries are highly qualified. We are going for it. If our people are fully qualified, we can overcome the challenges. It is important to have right system to promote the qualifications. We are mainly intended for rules of law. Rules of law are needed to enforce to improve the nation. If the laws are unfair, we need to modify them. The laws are enacted by people and not made by naturally,” she said.

Moreover, towns and villages are needed to develop equally. It will make the stability of the country as our country is formed with states and regions, she added.
