YANGON- Protest workers from Fu Yuen garment factory will officially end their campaign and resume their employment on November 6 after agreements with their employer, according to the source.

The tripartite discussion among employees, employer and Yangon Region Government Committee was held on October 30th. Later, the employer decided that the protest workers are to employed again.

“We signed agreement with labours and employer at the Township Labour Arbitration Office. The agreement said that the protest workers must be employed and they would resume their job on November 6th. While on the job, we are going to sign a new Employment Contract which will explicitly dictate that the owner will be providing salaries owed to the workers before the boycotts began. We will be withdrawing our protest camp this this evening,” said Thet Htar Shwe, one of the protest leaders.

Phyo Min Thein, Yangon Region Chief Minister, told the protest workers that he would be negotiating for remaining two points out of nine after they’ve resumed their work.

“The remaining fact is the rate of extra fees paid based on technical expertise which will be set after balancing it with rates in other factories. We are going to continue negotiation for the remaining two points while on our jobs,” said Thazin Nwe, one of the protest workers.

The Fu Yuen Garment Factory had dismissed 30 workers including a leader of Labour Union at the factory. The workers staged a protest against the factory starting on August 21st citing unfair practices and beach of regulations by the employer.

However, they came to an agreement with the employer on the 71st day of the strike due to intervention and negotiation from the Yangon Region Government.
