Former Mandalay Mayor Dr. Ye Lwin and former Mandalay city development committee member U Kyaw Zeya were released from Mandalay Obo Prison on January 4.

Dr. Ye Lwin and U Kyaw Zeya are among over 1,000 prisoners who were granted pardon on January 4 in commemoration of the Independence Day.

A relative of Dr. Ye Lwin shared the news of his release on social media. One of the family members of U Kyaw Zeya also confirmed the news.

Dr. Ye Lwin was sentenced under Section 505 (a) and on charges of misappropriation of the State property.

U Kyaw Zeya was also sentenced under Section 505 (a).
