Forever White Ribbon Film Festival to mark as awareness campaign for violence against women

Forever White Ribbon Film Festival was held at the St. Joseph Memorial Hall in Taunggyi on December 5 evening.

In accordance with the 16 day campaign for eradication of violence against women, short films were shown at the festival with this year motto of “Protect women with law over violence against women”.

Every year, November 25th to December 10 is designated as the 16 Days of activism against gender based violence. November 25, which is the international Day for Elimination of Violence against women and December 10 is the Human Rights Day.

In the evening of December 5th evening, about 10 films including documentary and short films were shown. After showing films, votes were collected from viewers and lucky draws were also held.

“The main aim is to avoid violence despite the gender, whether man or woman. Next, we have to fight back violence over men, women, children, or disabled persons. With the aim of educating people by showing educative short films on domestic violence and gender discriminating. We have chosen showing films and documentary films because films can easily enter hearts of people,” said Dr. Kaythi Myint Thein, assistant director from gender equality network.

Forever White Ribbon Film Festival and eradication of violence against women 16 day campaign were held in 6 cities in Myanmar such as Yangon, Mandalay, Myitkyina, Taunggyi, Sittwe and Pha An.

The closing of the film festival and award giving ceremony will be held on December 11 in Yangon.

Two awards from documentary and short films will be chosen and prizes will be given. Each prize will be given US $ 1500 and people’s choice award will be given with US $ 1000.
