The 45-member joint charter amendment committee held a meeting to discuss the way of how to write the charter amendment bill on August 26.

A member of the joint charter amendment committee said: “Today’s meeting focused on the fact that each party makes preparations for each section and chapter. We will approve them at the next meeting. We will have to take a vote if we don’t reach a consensus on the fact that each section needs one more provisions. We have not decided whether or not the vote will be taken in terms of the party or individual.”

On January 29, MP Aung Kyi Nyunt from Magway Region Constituency-4 submitted a proposal to urgently form a joint committee for the charter amendment.

The joint charter amendment committee submitted its report at the Union Parliament on July 15.

The Union Parliament approved the joint charter amendment committee’s 3,765-point report after taking a vote on August 9.

The military MPs said they opposed it since the submission of the proposal as the formation of the joint charter amendment committee was not in conformity with Chapter-12 of the Constitution. They attended the committee’s meetings to show their respect for the Union Parliament’s decision. They did not amend, refill and repeal the provisions of the charter even though they were included in the joint charter amendment committee.
