The Central Bank of Myanmar (CBM) announced that it sold another $15 million on January 15, bringing the total amount of dollars sold since December 18 to $56.08 million.

The CBM sold dollars to the foreign currency market three times in January, amounting to $33.93 million. The first sale was $12.93 million on January 2, followed by $16 million on January 5, and $15 million on January 15.

In December, the CBM made two dollar sales to the foreign currency market for fuel importers, adding up to $22.15 million. The first sale was $9.72 million on December 18, and the second sale was $12.43 million on December 21.

The CBM has been injecting US dollars into the foreign currency market to ease the pressure on the kyat, which has been depreciating against the greenback since November 2023.
