BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN (Borneo Bulletin/ANN) - Deputy Sarawak Chief Minister Dato Amar Awang Tengah bin Ali Hasan said Sarawak and Brunei Darussalam will be working closely to open new opportunities in various sectors of the economy, including tourism.
The deputy chief minister was speaking to the Borneo Post on the sidelines of the audience ceremony with His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam at Istana Nurul Iman on Monday for the monarch’s 73rd birthday celebration.
He told the paper that His Majesty was pleased with the existing cooperation between Sarawak and Brunei in tourism, agriculture, livestock, telecommunications and other sectors.
“Sarawak’s move to develop the coastal roads in Limbang and Lawas to improve connectivity was welcomed, as it would boost economic growth in Brunei and Sarawak,” he said.
“With the [construction of] the longest bridge in Southeast Asia linking the Brunei-Muara District and Temburong District expected to be completed at the end of this year, tourism development cooperation is expected to take off here and in its surrounding areas,” said Awang Tengah, who is also Sarawak’s Minister of Industrial and Entrepreneur Development.
