The area that does not allow Internet access or journalists is the best place for those wanting to violate human rights, said Rakhine State Parliament Speaker San Kyaw Hla in his concluding remarks at the final-day of emergency meeting (1/2020).

He pointed out some infamous cases such as escalating fighting in Rakhine State, increased casualties of civilians and falling of shells onto a primary school in Buthidaung Township on Children’s Day injuring 21 students.

“What is worse is that no one takes responsibility. They are keeping silent. In a conflict-region that allows no Internet access of journalists at home and abroad. What is the human rights situation there? Just ponder it. We have been looked down upon by the international community as we did not allow foreign reporters. The area that does not allow Internet access or journalists is the best place for those wanting to violate human rights. Has our Rakhine State become like this? There should be no indiscriminate shooting in a fight. Fighting should not take place by taking cover of civilians or our cultural and religious buildings. We must protect innocent public members. We must safeguard cultural and religious heritages,” the speaker commented.
