4.7 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Near Tada-U Township, Mandalay

The Department of Meteorology and Hydrology (DMH) reported that a 4.7-magnitude earthquake struck approximately three miles southeast of Tada-U Township in Mandalay Region yesterday evening.

The tremor, centered about 18 miles southwest of the Mandalay seismic station, occurred at 5:31 PM Myanmar Standard Time on April 1. The DMH classified it as a minor earthquake.

Residents in Mandalay and Sagaing Regions also felt the minor tremor. This follows a powerful earthquake on March 28, which has since triggered a series of aftershocks. As of March 31, a total of 47 aftershocks had been recorded.

In a related event, the DMH also reported that a 4.9-magnitude earthquake struck five miles northeast of Pobbathiri Township in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday evening.
