Myanmar Railways has announced the expansion of its modern air-conditioned DEMU express train services on the Yangon–Mandalay–Yangon route, with passengers now able to purchase tickets up to seven days or five days in advance.
Under the Ministry of Transport, Myanmar Railways began operating the modern air-conditioned DEMU express trains — Train No. (3) Up/No. (4) Down and Train No. (5) Up/No. (6) Down — on the Yangon–Mandalay–Yangon route in May 2026 to improve travel convenience for passengers.
Due to strong passenger demand and positive feedback, Myanmar Railways has added another air-conditioned DEMU express service, Train No. (9) Up/No. (10) Down, starting from June 2.
The newly expanded service will stop at Toegyaunggalay, Bago, Phyu, Taungoo, Nay Pyi Taw, Tatkon, Pyawbwe, and Thazi stations along the Yangon–Mandalay–Yangon route. Ticket prices remain unchanged, with upper-class fares set at 48,000 kyats and first-class fares at 34,000 kyats for the full journey.
In addition to the DEMU express trains on the Yangon–Mandalay line, Myanmar Railways is also operating Train No. (11) Up/No. (12) Down, an air-conditioned air-suspension train equipped with two upper-class passenger coaches.
For the Yangon–Nay Pyi Taw –Yangon route, modern air-conditioned DEMU express trains — Train No. (7) Up/No. (8) Down and Train No. (31) Up/No. (32) Down — are currently in service.
Passengers can purchase seat tickets online through the Online Railways Ticketing and Payment (ORTP) system. Tickets for full-route journeys can be booked up to seven days in advance, while tickets for intermediate stations can be purchased up to five days ahead.
