Myanmar President Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, who is on an official visit to Mumbai, India, met with Maharashtra Governor Shri Jishnu Dev Verma on the evening of June 2 to discuss efforts to enhance trade, investment, and broader cooperation between Myanmar and India.
Upon arrival at Maharashtra Lok Bhavan Mumbai (Governor’s House), the Myanmar high-level delegation led by the President was welcomed by the Governor of Maharashtra.
During the meeting, both sides discussed the long-standing friendly relations between the two neighboring countries, highlighting the strong historical ties, growing friendship, and expanding cooperation. They also exchanged views on people-to-people interactions between the citizens of Myanmar and India.
The President briefed the Governor on the Myanmar delegation’s efforts to further strengthen trade and investment between the two countries. The discussions also included Myanmar’s appreciation for India’s assistance during times of natural disasters, noting that the Government and people of Myanmar are grateful for India’s support as a good neighbor. In addition, both sides reviewed ongoing cooperation across various sectors and explored ways to further deepen bilateral collaboration.
The meeting was attended by Union Ministers and delegation members accompanying the President, as well as Myanmar’s Ambassador to India. The Maharashtra Governor, state government officials, India’s Ambassador to Myanmar, and other relevant officials were also present.
Following the talks, the President and the Governor posed for a commemorative group photograph with attendees.
The President and delegation members then proceeded to the venue of a state banquet hosted in their honor by the Governor of Maharashtra. Upon arrival, the state ceremonial band performed the national anthems of Myanmar and India.
The Governor introduced members of the Maharashtra state government to the President, while the President in turn introduced members of the Myanmar delegation.
The Governor subsequently hosted a dinner reception in honor of the Myanmar high-level delegation led by the President. Before and during the banquet, the Maharashtra ceremonial band entertained guests with musical performances featuring songs from both countries.
After the dinner, the President signed the guestbook at Maharashtra Lok Bhavan Mumbai (Governor’s House).
The President and delegation members also enjoyed a performance by the Maharashtra ceremonial band, after which both the President and the Governor presented honorary cash awards to the performers.
