Water Pouring Festival on the Full Moon Day of Kason held in Shwedagon Pagoda

YANGON----Water Pouring Festival on the Full Moon Day of Kason was held on the platform of Shwedagon Pagoda today (on May 14th ) and pilgrims and those who want to pour water to Bo Tree crowded the Shwedagon pagoda’s platform.

It will be the 39th time of holding the festival at Shwedagon Pagoda.

Myanmar Buddhists celebrate the Kason Full Moon Day Festival by pouring water to the Bo Tree where the Buddha attained enlightenment. People also perform meritorious deeds on this significant day such as taking Sabbath, donating flowers or incense offerings to Buddha images, and meditating.

There are five Bo Trees, planted in the compound of Shwedagon Pagoda, and the ceremony was scheduled to take place at the Bo Tree on the Thursday Corner of the Pagoda.

Presiding Sayardaws of the Shwedagon pagoda, the Shwedagon Pagoda Board of Trustees and its staffs made preparation measures for organizing water pouring event on full moon day of Kason which falls on May 14th.

Moreover, they[pagoda board of trustees] planned to get ready with water pots for the pilgrims who are coming to pay homage to the pagoda can pour water at the Bo Trees in four corners of Shwedagon pagoda’s platform.
