The Ministry of Education has announced that over 5.1 million students have enrolled in schools across Myanmar within the first five days of the enrollment period for the 2024-2025 academic year.

According to the Ministry, the Department of Basic Education began accepting enrollments for high schools, middle schools, and primary schools on May 23, 2024. By the fifth day, a total of 5,160,019 students had enrolled in basic education schools, private schools, and monastic schools across various regions and states.

On the first day of enrollment, 1,792,808 students had already enrolled, indicating a strong start to the academic year. The Ministry of Education has also provided free school supplies and textbooks to students at the time of enrollment.

The enrollment period for all grades from Grade 1 to Grade 12 is set from May 23 to June 2, and all universities, degree colleges, basic education schools, and related ministry-affiliated universities and schools are scheduled to open simultaneously on June 3.

The Ministry of Education has issued guidelines for parents and guardians, requesting that they enroll their children only in designated areas within their townships and avoid giving money or gifts to principals, teachers, or staff. The guidelines also emphasize the importance of regular attendance, participation in school activities, and daily completion of homework, as well as cooperation with principals and teachers to prevent dropouts and ensure students' progress to middle and high school levels.

Additionally, parents and guardians are encouraged to work with principals and teachers to prevent drug use, promote road safety and healthy living, and prevent students from becoming addicted to gaming. They are also requested to follow the Ministry of Health's COVID-19 prevention guidelines and ensure students receive the full course of COVID-19 vaccinations.

In comparison, during the 2023-2024 academic year, a total of 1,343,037 students enrolled in basic education schools, private schools, and monastic schools across various regions and states on the first day of enrollment. Grades 9 and 12 were taught with a new curriculum, and teachers received advanced training through centralized and progressive courses.
