Pyidaungsu Hluttaw (Union Parliament) approved an urgent proposal to demand immediate release of civil servants and civilians including Chin State Upper House lawmaker Whei Tin abducted by the Arakan Army (AA).

A total of eight lawmakers entered into the urgent proposal at the Union Parliament in Nay Pyi Taw on November 18.

There were 376 votes for and 7 against the motion with 3 abstentions when deciding it through vote system.

Pyithu Hluttaw (Lower House) MP Dr. Hla Moe representing Aungmyaythasan Constituency, Mandalay Region, Secretary of Pyithu Hluttaw’s Rights Committee, submitted an urgent proposal to demand immediate release of civil servants and civilians including Chin State Upper House lawmaker abducted by AA to the regular session of the Union Parliament in Nay Pyi Taw on November 13.

There are many civilians, government servants and public servants who were arrested like Whei Tin. The AA arrested them for the reason that they would be investigated for security purpose. Their arrest reason seemed unfair and illogical. The unlawful acts of the AA would not bring about the interests to the citizens and organizations including the practical endeavors of the State and its future objectives and would be good for nothing, Dr. Hla Moe mentioned in his proposal.

Chin State Upper House lawmaker Whei Tin was elected by the people. He has to negotiate with authorities concerned without being detrimental to the Constitution in an effort to develop the State and constituency. He has to recount the details of the experience gained in the parliament to the voters. He has to present matters relating to the voters to the parliament. He had to be abducted by the AA while discharging duties. The AA’s lawless abduction badly spoiled national reconciliation and internal peace process, said Dr. Hla Moe.

Although about 28 parliamentarians gave names to enter into the proposal, only 8 ones discussed it.
