The Union Election Commission (UEC) will take action against National League for Democracy (NLD) for election fraud and its party members for high treason if they violated the law after voters list are checked, said its chairman Thein Soe after a second meeting with the political parties held at the UEC office on May 21.

A total of 59 political parties attended the meeting.

“At the polling station, advance voting held on October 29, using the COVID as a pretext. Ballot papers were given in the car and they do what they like. We found some illegal activities. In addition, the former UEC also issued orders which allow people without ID cards to vote and allow people to vote if someone supports you. They are illegal activities. The law stipulates that you are eligible to vote if only you hold an NRC. Therefore, it can be seen that these actions were carried out with the intention of forming a government to make a single party to win the election. Evidences of the intervention of the Union Government and the authorities have been shown in newspapers. So, as the voter list will be checked soon, we need to continue to do what is right. So what can we do about the NLD, which cheated? So we will think of the NLD to be disbanded or we have to take action against those who committed treason,” he said.

He continued the commission is checking the voters list in 2020 general election. The political parties attended today are candidates in the election and they can send the old commission's and the old sub-commissions’ bias and evidences to the new commission to prevent to do such kind in the next election. We will list the evidences and report them to the State.

We found that people without ID cards are included in the voters list and some are included twice or thrice with the same ID cards. The township election commission compiled the voter list compiled by the village administrator and the party election organizers. We found that voter registration was also conducted in the wards but they didn’t check whether the voters are living in the ward or not, they have NRC cards or not and they are eligible voters or not, he added.

Voter lists for the 2020 election are checked across states and divisions. So we found that the mistakes are the same. We found the same mistakes and some are well planned, he said.
