The commanders of Western Command and North-West Command were reshuffled due to requirements for military operations, said military spokesperson Brigadier General Zaw Min Tun.

He disclosed the information after a press conference on the activities within the third year of the government's term held in Nay Pyi Taw on May 27.

"The reshuffle of military commanders depends on the need. There were changes in the Western Command and North-West Command. And this is for the need of military operations. There was no other change," said Brig-Gen Zaw Min Tun.

Western Command is based in Rakhine State and North-West Command in Sagaing Region.

For the military operation requirements, Western Command Commander Major General Tint Naing was re-appointed as North-West commander and North-West Command Commander Major General Phone Myat as Western Command commander.

Asked about reports that some lieutenant generals and generals would retire, the spokesperson said: "We have the military service rules. When we reach retirement age, we have to go according to the military service rules."

He added that the investigation team formed by the military for ARSA terror attacks had gone to Rakhine and made an enquiry. Further investigation would made, he said.
