TITLI causes regional heavy fall in Kayin State

A very severe cyclonic storm “TITLI” made landfall on October 11 and caused thunder showers across Myanmar with regionally heavy falls in some places including Kayin State, according to Department of Meteorology and Hydrology (DMH).

The storm crossed Gopalpur, south of Andhra Pradesh coast, India on the afternoon of October 11 and is still persisting as a deep depression over land, announced the DMH.

The recorded rainfalls are 4.5 inches in Kamamaung, 2.48 inches in Sittwe, 2.24 inches each in Maungdaw and Hpa-an, 2.17 inches each in Maubin and Loikaw, 1.81 inches in Nantsan, 1.75 inches in Kyaikmaraw, 1.58 inches each in Mogok and Kyainseikkyi, 1.53 inches in Myeik, 1.46 inches each in Mindat, Kyauktaw and Kyaukphyu and 1.38 inches in Shwebo respectively.

Although the storm was forecasted to move northeast-wards as a deep depression and weaken gradually, heavy rainfall may continue to occur in middle and mountainous areas of Myanmar till October 13. People living in those areas need to be careful of flash floods and landslides, said Director General Dr Kyaw Moe Oo of the DMH.
