Threats have been increasing in Rakhine State, said Rakhine Chief Minister Nyi Pu.

The remarks came from the meeting of central executives of the ruling political party of National League For Democracy (NLD) held at Headquarters of the NLD in Yangon on January 13.

“I highlight increased threats in Rakhine State during the meeting. The Rakhnine Chief Minister Nyi Pu presented reports on Rakhnine that is at risk of terror threats. But, we think of only the matters as to the NLD party.  The administrative body will continue carry out the tasks necessary for the administration,” said Dr Myo Nyunt.

Three mines exploded on the approach road to the reinforced concrete bridge No 1/106 between Nankyar and Laungkyet villages on Yangon-Sittwe motor road on January 1. The explosion damaged the right door of the third vehicle of the chief minister’s motorcade.

The mine blasted at a time when the chief minister’s motorcade crossed Yawchaung bridge on December 8 in 2017. The mine explosion caused injuries for some members of Tatmadaw (defence services) of Tatmadaw motorcade.

“We can manage just giving a word of warning to our colleagues for the sake of social reason. The CEC has nothing to do with the administrative matters. The authorities concerned will be responsible for administration and security,” said Dr Myo Nyunt.

Khin Maung Than, CEC member of Arakan League for Democracy, was shot dead at his house in Kyarinntaung village in Myaypon Township, Rakhine State. For these reasons, Rakhine State is at risk of terror threats, said Dr Myo Nyunt.
