Inquiries related to land and factory leases have resumed from those who want to invest in the Thilawa Special Economic Zone, according to the Myanmar-Japan Thilawa Development Ltd.

Myanmar-Japan Thilawa Development Limited (MJTD) reported a net profit of two million dollars for the 2023-2024 FY ending on September 30. With a profit balance of US$57.4 million, it possesses cash and cash equivalents balance of US$45 million as of September 30, 2023.

Due to the stable environment and high-quality infrastructure of Thilawa Special Economic Zone, as well as the special benefits of the Special Economic Zone, it has started receiving inquiries regarding land and factory lease from those who want to invest. The main income of the SEZ is came from regular operating activities, repair and maintenance activities and water and electricity works. In addition, MJTD's solar power generation (solar project) will also generate income in the next fiscal year, according to the statement.

Thilawa Property Development (TPD) constructs residential and commercial buildings located in Thilawa Special Economic Zone, aiming to carry out marketing and leasing activities.

Four years into the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic, travel restrictions have slowed home, farm and land markets and the company's income was affected due to the instability of the exchange rate. As a result of these consequences, a loss of 214 million kyats was incurred for the 2023-2024 FY ending on September 30. In the 2023-2024 FY, there was a lease of land for two years, and the income and profit from the lease of that land will generate good financial benefits in the next year-end financial statement. For the half-year of 2023-2024 FY ending on September 30, it reported a profit of 8.3 billion kyats and a cash and bank balance of 3.1 billion kyats, with US$1.39 million in that balance.
