Thanbyuzayet resident faces anti-terrorism charges for allegedly funding PDFs

In a significant development, a 46-year-old man involved in the construction materials trade has been apprehended and charged under the Anti-Terrorism Law. 

The arrest took place in Mon State’s Thanbyuzayet Township on February 19, following suspicions that he provided financial assistance to the People’s Defence Force (PDF).

The detainee, Nan Myint Oo (also known as Ko Tayoke), testified that he supported the PDF group with 80,000 Kyats in August 2022 and 20,000 Kyats in May 2023, specifically directed to Pancelo.

Additionally, he confessed to purchasing 700 bullets of M-16 ammunition worth over Ks 420,000 in February 2023, which he then handed over to the PDF.

Further investigations revealed that he acquired a River brand air gun for 480,000 kyats and an illegal PIETRO BERETTE-style pistol made in Taiwan, along with a glue gun, for 2,500 Thai baht. These weapons were found in his possession, leading to serious legal consequences.

The case against Ko Nan Myint Oo encompasses charges under Section 50 (j) / 50 (s) / 52 (a) of the Anti-Terrorism Law, and authorities continue their diligent investigation.

Similarly, another individual, Ko Mya Than (also known as Sayar San), residing in Kyatkhaingyay ward within Thanbyuzayet Township, was arrested on February 2 for allegedly supplying arms and food to PDF groups. He is currently in police custody at the Police Station in Thanbyuzayet Township.
