Temporary suspension of attending official meetings on peace process was aimed at further strengthening peace process and the meeting of Peace Process Steering Team (PPST) will be held before the end of this month, said Phado Saw Kywe Htoo Win, Vice-Chairman of the KNU.

The peace research paper reading session and political dialogue organized by the CDES were held at Green Hill Hotel in Tamwe Township, Yangon Region on February 9.

General Saw Mutu Say Poe is currently chairing the PPST. Phado Saw Tardo Hmu was substituted as the secretary of the PPST in the place of General Saw Muto Say Poe. Eight ethnic armed organizations demanded for two times that the PPST meeting should be held to carry on political dialogues.

The PPST was formed with ethnic NCA signatories to lay down policies on peace process. The second leader of the PPST is General Ywet Sit, Chairman of the RCSS.

“Our temporary suspension is to build understanding within our organization. We are building understanding with Tatmadaw (defence services) and the government. It is to further strengthen peace. I think we will be able to resume only after the PPST meeting,” said Phado Saw Kywe Htoo Win. Political dialogues are filled with prejudices,” said Phado Saw Kywe Htoo Win.

Those involved in the political dialogues need to recognize each other. A solution is needed to appear. We must seek a better solution at the political dialogue. We are negotiating what we didn’t agree at the political dialogue, said Phado Saw Kywe Htoo Win.
