State Counselor Aung San Suu Kyi will attend 33rd Asean Summit held in Singapore on the second week of November according to Deputy Permanent Secretary of Foreign Affairs Aung Kyaw Zan on October 30.

The 33rd Asean Summit will be held from November 12 to 16 in Singapore. Together with State Counselor Aung San Suu Kyi, Union Minister for International Cooperation Kyaw Tin, union minister for economic sector, senior officials from Ministry of Foreign Affairs and director generals will attend the summit.

The 32nd Asean Summit was held at the Shangri La Hotel in Singapore and was attended by President Win Myint. The Asean Summit is held twice per year.

“It is not like President Win Myint and State Counselor Aung San Suu Kyi are taking turn to attend Asean Summit. In the coming summit, there are some heavy issues to be discussed among the Asean nations. Another thing is in the 32nd Asean Summit in which President Win Myint was attended, he was sworn in as the new President of Myanmar recently before that Summit was held. The aim was to introduce him with other Asean leaders,” explained Aung Kyaw Zan, deputy permanent secretary of Foreign Affairs.

In last August, State Counselor Aung San Suu Kyi visited Singapore at the invitation of Singapore’s Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong. She also delivered a speech at the ISEAS (Institute of South East Asian Studies) with the title “Democratic transition”- “Challenges and Way forward”.
