State Counsellor looks into progress reports on greening Mt Popa for sustainability

State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi looked into progress reports on greening Mt. Popa for sustainability on November 1, the State Counsellor Office reported.

Accompanied by Dr Zaw Myint Maung, the Chief Minister of Mandalay Region, Deputy Minister Min Thu of the Ministry of State Counsellor Office, regional ministers and officials concerned, Aung San Suu Kyi paid obeisance to Pyidawaye Sutaung Pyae Pagoda on the top of Mt. Popa and offered flowers, water and candles there at 7 am.

Next, State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi and party paid obeisance to the pagodas on Mt. Popa and overlooked Mt. Popa and its developments and greening tasks for Mt. Popa. Afterwards, the chief  minister and officials presented reports on progress of greening Mt. Popa and development and sustainability. 

After that State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi and party proceeded to Aung Dhamayone where Than Tun, Secretary of Myanmar Geosciences Society explained to the formation of the society and its objectives, geological findings, field trips in cooperation with the organizations concerned, the tasks to be carried out for developing Khakaborazi, Indawgyi, Twintaung, Popa Taung, Pindaya, Inlay Lake and Zwegabin Taung as ‘Mother Earth Sites’ and future tasks to  State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi and party. 

Then, Vice-Chairman Sone Han of Myanmar Geosciences Society and Member Cho Oo presented reports on salient points of Mt. Papa, causes for landslide and preparedness works for possible landslides in the future. Aung San Suu Kyi asked them what she wanted to know and then urged them to take sustainability into consideration when taking preventive measures.  

Aung San Suu Kyi and party met with the groups led by Vice-Chairman Sone Han of Myanmar Geosciences Society and Chairman Oo Toe of Mt. Popa Lovers Association at Sagawar Garden Hotel and discussed matters relating to greening Mt. Popa for sustainability. 

Aung San Suu Kyi and party arrived back in Nay Pyi Taw by special flight in the afternoon after leaving Nyaung-U.
