Series of explosions occur in Yangon on August 6

Explosions occurred near the corner of Maha Bandoola Park, at a traffic police post on Phonegyi Street and near Kamayut Township Police Station in Yangon Region on August 6, said local sources.

At about 4 pm on August 6, an explosion occurred near the corner of Maha Bandoola Park in Kyaukdata Township and another explosion at the traffic police post at the corner of Phonegyi Street in Lanmadaw Township and Maha Bandoola Road.

“The explosion occurred near the blocked road at the corner of the park. It was very loud and we saw clouds of smoke,” said a resident in Kyauktada Township. “Police arrived and the area was blocked in four corners.”

The explosion at the traffic police post destroyed the roof and walls. It also caused damage to some nearby cars.

After the two explosions in the evening, main roads in Yangon were temporarily blocked and checks conducted. No one was hurt in both incidents.   

Moreover, an explosion occurred near Kamayut Township Police Station and another explosion near Grand Hantha Hospital at the corner of Strand Road and Nanattaw Road in Kyimyindine Township at about 7pm.
