Sagaing Region Government yesterday cancelled the letter sent to the Union government after a protest march by locals against mining exploration by Myanmar Yang Tse Copper Ltd in Warsein Mountain, said Soe Oo, Sagaing Region Minister for Planning and Finance.

On September 30, The region government sent a recommendation letter to the Union Government, saying that it has no plan to remonstrate against copper and related-metal exploration in Yinmarbin district according to the decision arrived at the regional cabinet meeting.

“The regional cabinet suspended it for the first time. Secondly, the regional cabinet recommended the project on over 20,000 out of more than 100,000 acres of lands. The region government has no reason to allow it as the people oppose the project. As a matter of fact, the union level body will have to decide it. The cancellation of letter sent to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation shows that the region government respects the people’s desires. The region government called an emergency meeting, he continued.
