The authorities had issued warnings to some companies, which announced they don’t have enough fuel to distribute, and that the companies have been ordered to distribute the fuel at the exchange rate of K1,850 per dollar, said Maj-Gen Zaw Min Tun, Spokesperson of the State Administration Council (SAC).

"We have enough fuel in our country. There is enough fuel which is imported and produced here. In fact, in the past, we estimated how much we need and imported the fuel. We imported how much we need in the country. There is more fuel to be had now than ever before. There is fuel for backup. The main problem is that the government sold dollars to companies to stabilize gas prices. We make it possible to distribute fuel to the people at a reasonable price. At that time, when we said that we would be able to distribute fuel at the exchange rate of K1,850 per dollar, some companies announced that they have fuel shortage. We have already warned those who need to be informed about this,” said Maj-Gen Zaw Min Tun.

In addition, the sale of dollars to gas station operators was stopped during Thingyan. The sale of dollars to gas station operators would resume from April 20, said Maj-Gen Zaw Min Tun.

"I want to say there is enough fuel. On Thingyan Day, we stopped selling dollars to buy fuel. We will continue to sell dollars to the companies, which are granted, from tomorrow (April 20),” said Maj-Gen Zaw Min Tun.
