Hundreds of people took to the street in Yangon yesterday (on December 23), calling for taking action against police officers who broke ethnics and laws in a child rape case in Windom Hill Nursery School in Nay Pyi Taw.

Lawyer U Kyee Myint who joined the public rally said: “We will make continued efforts to bring to light the truth. Actions are to be taken against the police officers who appeared in the press conference, in accord with the law. But not all police force. We must ask for compensation. Cooperation is to be made to expose and penalize the real culprit in accord with the law.”

Daw Tin Yee from Thanlyin Township said: “I want the officials to penalize the culprit in accord with the law for the truth. The reason is the child is very young. It has caused a big loss to her. The police disclosed the name of victim and her parents. I want the case to be in accord with the law. I believed that Ko Aung Gyi is not a culprit. The release and re-arrest of him show their dishonesty. I think they used every possible way to entrap him. As a mother, I pray for the truth about the case as she (Victoria) is just like my grandchild.”

U Tint Myint from Bothtaung Township said: “I regard her (Victoria) as my daughter. I want to uncover the truth about the case and expose the real culprit. Actions are to be taken against the police or whoever for the breach of law. The police should not reveal the name of the victim (Victoria). Action should be taken against the officials in accord with the Child Rights Law.”

Some political parties and activists also participated in the public rally.

On December 18, suspect Aung Gyi was discharged by the court.
