The import of electricity and fuel from Thailand to Myawaddy, on the Myanmar-Thai border, has been suspended since 8:30 am on February 5.
At around 8:30 am on January 5, fuel trucks imported into Myanmar were blocked from passing through Bridge No. 2, causing a large number of people to queue for fuel at fuel stations in and around Myawaddy. Many fuel stations were closed at around 1:30 pm.
In addition, the Thai side cut off the electricity supply from around 8:30 am today, causing difficulties for health care facilities such as the oxygen plant in Myawaddy, including offices and hospitals.
The oxygen plant, located in Ward No. 6 of Myawaddy, is planning to travel to Mae Sot to replenish oxygen and continue providing services.
"The power supply has been cut off, and the factory has also been shut down. We are producing oxygen for emergency patients at Myawaddy District Hospital and Myitta Mon Private Hospital. We are considering supplying oxygen to Thailand to ensure that emergency patients do not lose their lives due to the power outage," said an official from the Myawaddy Foundation.
"When I saw the fuel shortage, price hike, and queues in other parts of country, I thought that this problem would not be faced in Myawaddy, but now I am facing it myself," said a person who bought fuel at a PTT gas station after waiting in line to buy fuel.
