The oxygen plant built behind the Taungga Lay Monastery in Ward 6, Myawaddy Township, Kayin State, has started its operation on August 26.

COVID-19 third wave caused a number of infections and deaths in Myawaddy in July, and due to rising oxygen demand, locals from Myawddy had to buy more oxygen supplies from Thailand.

To meet this oxygen demand, the Myawaddy Foundation team and volunteers from the city and officials were involved in the construction of the plant and the purchase of an oxygen generator.

Ko Naing, a committee member of the Myawaddy Foundation, said that as the mechanical installation was completed, it would start operating on August 26 and supply oxygen cylinders to meet the oxygen needs of Myawaddy and in the region.

“Myawaddy Foundation, generous donors and officials have completed the construction of the oxygen plant. It will be open from today. Oxygen cylinders will be filled. The priority is for Myawaddy. Production capacity is 108 40-liter cylinders a day. If there is more than the city needs, we will be able to supply the surrounding towns and villages,” said Ko Naing.

The oxygen plant can produce up to 108 40-liter pots per day (24 hours) and it will supply the need of oxygen to Myawaddy district hospital, Thingannyi Naung Military Hospital, COVID-19 centers and social welfare associations and the public.
