Over $600 m earned from one million tons of beans and pulses in seven months

Myanmar has earned more than US$600 million from export of over a million tons of beans and pulses over the past seven months this fiscal year, exceeding over US$260 million as over 430,000 tons could be exported compared to the same period of last year.

From October 1 to May 3 in the current 2018-2019 fiscal year, over a million tons of beans and pulses were exported earning US$609.055 million.

In the same period of the previous financial year, just over 565.491 tons worth US$344.2 million were exported.  

Myanmar mainly exports green gram, mung beans and pigeon peas. India mainly purchases mung beans and pigeon peas while some European countries and China mainly buy green gram.

Local bean market increased continuously with K838,000 per ton of FAQ mung bean. However, the price has fallen again by about K30,000 these days, according to Bayintnaung Wholesale Market in Yangon Region.

According to the prices available from Bayintnaung Wholesale Market on April 1, the price for one ton of FAQ mung bean was K740,000 and one ton of SQ mung bean K885,000. On May 3, the price for one ton of FAQ mung bean was K838,000 and one ton of SQ mung bean K983,000. The prices increased by around K100,000 within one month.

On May 9, the price for one ton of FAQ mung bean was K807,000 and one ton of SQ mung bean K957,000. So the prices fell by K31,000 per FAQ and K26,000 per SQ.
