The road sections of the main roads connecting Kachin State, Sagaing Region and Mandalay Region have been closed for three days due to heavy fighting in Katha District, upper Sagaing Region and Mabim area in northern Shan State, according to motorists.

A driver said, "In the Myitkyina-Mandalay road section, if you go up the way, the road blocked at the Kyaunggone and if you go down, it's at the Indaw-Nantte. The buses to Mandalay were allowed to travel for a while on January 22 and are now closed again. It will be closed for a few more days."

Motorists said that the Indaw-Htigyaing-Mandalay road section has been closed for more than two months and there is no traffic.

A driver from Bhamo said, "The road from Shwegu to Mabim-Mogok road section is closed due to fighting. Htigyaing-Tagaung-Mandalay road has been closed for a long time. I think it's been over two months. If you want to go to Myitkyina, you have to go to Mandalay and went from Sagaing-Shwebo Road. It cost hundreds of thousands of kyats for bus fares."

In Kachin State, every time the union highway is closed, the prices of basic commodities go up.

"Once the road is closed, the price here goes up regularly. It is onion, fish and meat, which has a low yield in this area. The price of eggs also goes up and 1,000 kyats for three eggs or two eggs," said a 50-year-old housewife.

Currently, there are attacks in Kawlin District of Sagaing Region and northern Shan State, and civilian casualties are also occurring.
