One killed, two wounded in landmine explosion in Kyaikhto Township

One local villager was killed and two others wounded after stepping on a landmine near Meyonlay Village in Kyaikhto Township, Mon State, at about 7.30pm on March 27, local sources reported.

They were returning from an overgrown land clearance when the mine exploded. The blast killed a 23-year-old man, while two other men were wounded after being hit by shrapnel, a local villager said.

“They were returning from a clearance of the overgrown ground in a plantation to grow crops. Casualties occurred after they had stepped on a landmine,” he said

According to local sources, the two injured were sent to Kyaikhto Township People’s Hospital, and one of them is in serious condition.

On the morning of March 22 also, a 25-year-old man died after stepping on a landmine in the Weikza Mountain in the Kyaikhtiyo Pagoda area in Kyaikhto Township.
