The National Reconciliation and Peace Center (NRPC) held separate meetings with the Karen National Union (KNU) and the Restoration Council of Shan State (RCSS) in Chiang Mai, Thailand on August 20 and that produced good results, said the representatives of the NRPC, the KNU and the RCSS.

Present at the meeting were Lt-Gen Khin Zaw Oo (Retired), the secretary of Government Peace Commission, Hla Maung Shwe, the adviser to the peace commission, Zaw Htay, the director-general of the State Counsellor Office, Phado Saw Kywe Htoo Win, the vice-chairman of the KNU, Phado Saw Tardo Hmu, the general secretary, Phado Marn Nyein Maung, the CEC member, Phado Saw Hse Gay, the permanent CEC member, Phado Saw Taw Nee, the permanent CEC member, and Phado Saw El Kalu Say, the permanent CEC member.

The current informal meeting between the NRPC and the KNU will be ten times, producing good results, said Hla Maung Shwe and Phado Saw Tardo Hmu.

“The government described its four proposed points. The government asked our attitude after explaining its proposed points. We gave our proposal on April 11. The government submitted next proposal on June 13. We explained our concert of four steps to the government how to build a federal democratic Union step by step, said Phado Saw Tardo Hmu, the general secretary of the KNU.

With regard to the implementation of the NCA, the four points proposed by the government are—efforts to reach the agreement as to definitions, seek federal principles in Union Peace Conference, search for bilateral agreements to go on holding political dialogues before and after 2020 among dialogue partners, and enjoy fruitful results of peace in the areas of ethnic NCA signatories.

“The proposed points of the government are very good and so we would like to discuss it in more detail. We offered our proposed points to the government. We intended to explain our proposed points more clearly and we will meet in Myanmar in the first week of next month. We accept it roughly,” said Phado Saw Tardo Hmu.

The leaders of the government, Tatmadaw and NCA-SEAO held the special meeting of during October in 2018, which the KNU failed to attend official meetings on peace process and Phado Saw Kywe Htoo Win mentioned that the plan to attend the official peace meetings was aimed at improving better than now, Hla Maung Shwe wrote it on his face book.

The NRPC met the KNU in the morning and the RCSS in the afternoon. The meeting of the NRPC and the RCSS produced the good result, said Colonel Sai Ngin, the spokesperson of the RCSS.
