According to the Ministry of Commerce, Myanmar earned over $2.3 billion from selling natural gas to other countries in the first eight months of the current fiscal year (2023-2024), which started in April and ended on December 8.

However, this was a decline from the previous years, as the Central Statistics Organization of the Ministry of Planning and Finance reported. The report showed that in the first quarter (April-June) of 2023-2024, Myanmar’s natural gas exports were worth over $841.1 million, which was over $67 million lower than the same period in 2022-2023, when they reached $909.5 million.

In the whole of 2022-2023, Myanmar made nearly $4 billion from natural gas exports, with the highest amount (over $1.1 billion) in the third quarter (October-December).

In 2021, Myanmar’s natural gas exports totaled over $3.15 billion, with the highest monthly income ($300 million) in November.

In 2019-2020, the country’s natural gas exports dropped by $420 million to $3.5 billion, compared to 2018-2019, when they were $3.92 billion. In 2017-2018, the natural gas exports were slightly lower at $3.51 billion.
