Myanmar reports two more Omicron variant cases, bringing total number to 21

Two Myanmar nationals returning from India have been found infected with new Omicron variant, bringing total number of Omicron cases to 21, according to the Ministry of Health (MOH).

According to a statement issued by the MOH, the ministry has been monitoring the COVID-19 virus for a long time, and the ministry has released information on the presence of SARS CoV-2 Variant Omicron among those returning to Myanmar on relief flights.

In doing so, the laboratory samples of suspected COVID-19 mutants returned from abroad, were tested at the No.1 1,000-Bed Military Hospital, and two of the samples were tested positive for SARS CoV-2 Variant Omicron on January 12.

The two Myanmar nationals, found infected with the Omicron variant, were from India returned to Myanmar on relief flights.

The patients with Omicron variant are being treated at designated hospitals, and the strict quarantine and laboratory tests are being carried out on passengers traveling with them.

According to a statement from the ministry, the ministry is being stepped up to monitor the COVID-19 mutation and to implement the prevention, control and treatment of COVID-19.
