The Office of the Myanmar Passport Issuing Board has issued a stern warning to those spreading rumors about passport issuance and engaging in unethical practices.

In a recent announcement, the office emphasized that individuals who demand exorbitant sums of money and act as intermediaries will be identified and held accountable.

Amidst the current climate of uncertainty, rumors have swirled regarding passport issuance. The office clarified that the established process for obtaining passports remains unchanged. For genuine travelers, the system continues to function, albeit with previously imposed limitations on the number of passports issued.

To facilitate the process, the Passport Issuing Office in Yangon now offers online booking through a convenient QR code system. Approximately 2,700 appointments are available daily. Additionally, passport services are accessible in other towns and cities, including Nay Pyi Taw.

In light of increased demand, the number of Myanmar migrant workers seeking employment in neighboring ASEAN countries (such as Thailand and Malaysia) and beyond (including Japan and Korea) has surged.

On February 19, tragedy struck at the passport issuing office in Mandalay, where two women lost their lives in a chaotic crush of people.
