In a shocking incident that unfolded in Mae Sot, Thailand, a Myanmar national, Maung Win Kyaw Bo, was apprehended on March 4 for the gruesome murder of a 62-year-old abbot at the Wat Mo Sueng monastery in Meku Village (South), near Mae Sot.

The abbot met his tragic end when he was repeatedly struck with a brick by the assailant.

U Moe Gyoe, the chairman of the Joint Action Committee on Burma’s Affairs (JACBA), condemned the act, emphasizing that assaulting a monk to the point of death is a heinous crime that goes against the principles of humanity.

He said the brutal killing of the Thai monk over a mere 700 Thai baht could raise serious concerns about the treatment of Myanmar nationals in Thailand.

According to reports, the perpetrator demanded the sum from the monk, who refused to comply. In a horrifying turn of events, the monk was beaten to death five times with a brick.
