Myanmar has recalled its ambassadors from three countries and appointed chargés d'affaires as a measure to downgrade diplomatic relations with them, said Major General Zaw Min Tun, spokesperson for the State Administration Council.

Those countries are Australia, Germany and Brunei.

Maj-Gen Zaw Min Tun confirmed the news when The Daily Eleven raised a question about it, adding that it was a retaliatory action against those countries that earlier downgraded their diplomatic ties with Myanmar.

“Germany, Australia and Brunei sent us chargés d'affaires about two month ago without appointing ambassadors. Officials from our ministry of foreign affairs have already told about this at a press conference. So we had to react as a similar treatment. We recalled our ambassadors and appointed chargés d'affaires in those countries to continue diplomatic work. Some ambassadors have returned while some are on their way home,” Maj-Gen Zaw Min Tun said.

According to the notifications issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador of Myanmar to Australia U Tha Aung Nyunt was recalled and Deputy Director General U Thet Tun of the Protocol Department appointed as chargé d'affaires; Ambassador of Myanmar to Brunei U Htin Lin recalled and Deputy Director General Daw Khin Sandar appointed as chargé d'affaires; and Ambassador of Myanmar to Germany Daw Yin Yin Myint recalled and Consulate General U Kyaw Htin Lin of Myanmar Consulate General’s Office in Hong Kong appointed as chargé d'affaires.
