More complaints after new Anti-Corruption Commission

There have been more complaints after the formation of the new Anti-Corruption Commission, and about 60 complaints come to the commission daily, said commission’s spokesman and deputy director Kyaw Soe.

The new membership took over the duty on November 24 last year.

"More complaints have been coming since the new commission started assuming their duty on November 24, 2017. We receive about 60 complaints a day. The complaint review and assessment committee is doing their work as quickly as possible," said Kyaw Soe.

He added that after public holidays including Saturdays and Sundays, there would be about 70 complaints. Some complaints were detailed with about 30 pages in one complaint, he commented.

From November 24, 2017 to September 30, 2018, there were 6,703 complaints directly addressed to the commission and sent to the commission as copies. They were 256 from Nay Pyi Taw, 100 from Kachin State, seven from Kayah State, 85 from Kayin State, 60 from Chin State, 563 from Sagaing Region, 100 from Tanintyayi Region, 738 from Bago Region, 378 from Magway Region, 1,284 from Mandalay Region, 311 from Mon State, 1557 from Yangon Region, 194 from Rakhine State, 322 from Shan State, and 748 from Ayeyawady Region, according to a statement released by the commission.

Of those complaints, investigations were launched towards 34; 1,508 sent to relevant government ministries and region/state governments; no action taken against 5,128; and 33 still under assessment.
