MOFA Union Minister meets with Chinese Foreign Minister in Beijing

U Than Swe, Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister for Foreign Affairs (MOFA) who had attended the 8th Mekong-Lancang Foreign Ministers’ Meeting held in Beijing of the People’s Republic of China met with Wang Yi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China at the Diaoyutai State Guest House yesterday, according to the MOFA’s announcement.

At the meeting, both sides cordially exchanged views on matters pertaining to the consolidation of the existing traditional bonds of Myanmar-China Pauk-Phaw relations, the acceleration of mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries, including bilateral projects under the China-Myanmar Economic Corridor (CMEC) and the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) such as Kyaukpyu Deep Seaport, China-Myanmar Railway and cross-border electricity distribution networks, closer collaboration between the law enforcement agencies of Myanmar and China for the maintenance of security, peace and stability along the Myanmar-China border areas and total elimination of illegal drugs and human trafficking as well as online scams, enhancement of cooperation in the media sector in controlling misinformation that could impact bilateral relations and closer coordination in the Mekong-Lancang cooperation mechanism as well as other regional and multilateral arenas.

They also discussed the possibility of conveying Buddha Tooth Relic for the 5th time to Myanmar at an appropriate time to promote further trust, understanding and friendship between the two countries.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi reiterated China’s position of respecting the sovereignty and territory integrity and non-interference in the internal affairs of Myanmar as well as support for Myanmar’s development path that suits the country.
