Ministry builds over 100 multi-purpose cyclone shelters last year

The ministry is building 116 multi-purpose cyclone shelters in Bago, Tanintharyi, Ayeyawady, Sagaing, Kayin, Mon, Rakhine, Chin and Shan, according to the Union Minister of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Dr. Win Myat Aye.  

The ministry could make rapid response to the natural disaster management. As part of preparations, the ministry built 102 multi-purpose cyclone shelters in 2018, using fund allocated from the National Natural Disaster Management Fund. So far a total of 220 multi-purpose cyclone shelters has been built, the minister said.

The earth drill was conducted in February, last year. In 2018, the ministry drafted the preparedness and response plan for earthquake and sought advice from the natural disaster advisory team.

Last year, the ministry formed the coordination committee for the rapid rehabilitation of disaster-hit region. The ministry placed special emphasis on the rehabilitation of disaster-hit regions where there were less efforts. The ministry spent Ks 6167.78979 million from the national natural disaster management fund and the ministry’s budget, on foods, relief aid, paddy strains and other crops, the reconstruction of roads and bridges, the repairing of houses and religious buildings,  in flood-hit Kayin, Mon, Bago and Tanintharyi.

The Ministry of Health and Sports has prioritized the earthquake disaster health management in populous Nay Pyi Taw, Yangon, Mandalay and Bago located on the Sagaing Fault.
