From October 1 to June 28 of 2018-19 FY, the marine export earnings hit 602.945 million US dollars, up 42.836 million USD, compared with the same period last year, according to the figures from the Commerce Ministry.

Myanmar’s marine export volume is relatively low compared to those of the neighbouring countries. In a bid to increase the export of marine products, the sector should turn to the  marine farming system rather than the natural fishing, according to the Fishery Department.

At the 16th meeting between Vice-President-1 and local entrepreneurs in May last year, Htay Myint, President of Myanmar Fisheries Federation submitted a plan to establish modern fishing lakes, fish feed factories, cold storage factories and factories which will produce value-added products, in partnership with experts from Indonesia, Taiwan and China.

This plan can create jobs for around 100,000 people.
