Three Myanmar migrant workers have been killed in a landslide in Malaysia, said San Win, chairman of Kapone Funeral Service Association based in Malaysia.

Following heavy rain, a landslide occurred in the Cameron Highlands District in Pahang, Malaysia, at about 3 am on October killing three Myanmar nationals living in a shed on a hillside.

The dead were a 23 years-old married couple and their friend, a 34-year-old woman.

"There have been heavy rain pours for two days in Malaysia. The region produces fruits. Myanmar migrant workers are living there. They are farm workers. They usually live in sheds. These hills have had cracks with the passage of time. When heavy rain falls, rainwater flows into these cracks. The workers are living at the foot of the hills. On October 14, a landslide was caused by heavy rain. Some managed to escape. But, a Chin couple and one Rakhine women were killed. Rescuers could not reach the area immediately," said San Win.

Rescue workers arrived at the scene at about 11 am and carried the dead bodies to hospital.

In 2014 also, a landslide in that region killed one Myanmar worker and badly injured another.
