More than 1,000 local residents from Mohnyin, Indaw and Hopin regions held a rally in Mohnyin, Kachin State on October 21 to oppose foreign countries and organizations that they say are applying pressure on Myanmar and the military over the Rakhine issue.
The rally was led by Shanni Literature and Culture Group.
In the rally, the protestors chanted slogans calling for perpetuity of national sovereignty, opposition to foreign countries that are meddling in Myanmar's internal affairs, wiping out of the ARSA (Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army) terrorist group, ensuring that the military wins over every fair war and unity of people in times of emergency.
"We are staging a protest in opposition to international and ICC pressure on our government and military. We support our government. Among the protestors are Bamar, Rakhine and Gawrakha. Most are ethnic Shanni. But there are no Kachin nationals," said Sai Chit Ngwe from Shanni Literature and Culture Group.
