Japan helps Myanmar build foot-and-mouth vaccine factory

Myanmar will produce one million foot-and-mouth vaccines a year after the construction of factory project which will be built with the help of Japan, according to the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation.

For the foot-and-mouth disease control project, the Japanese government will provide a fund of 13.204 million US dollars (1417 million Japanese Yen) for the construction of foot-and-mouth vaccine factory and the purchase of disease screening and lab equipment. 

Dr. Ye Win Tun, Director-General of Livestock and Veterinary Science Department under the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation said: “The department has been conducting the vaccination programs in 24 worst-affected townships in the central Myanmar since the previous five years. It is found that the outbreaks of foot and mouth disease has declined. The plant can produce one million vaccines a year. The construction of the plant and lab will complete in July 2020.”

The main purpose of this project is to control the outbreaks of foot-and-mouth diseases and develop agriculture and livestock breeding sectors through the production of more vaccines and development of lab works.
