H1N1 kills 62 till July 18

Among the 742 H1N1 suspected victims, 319 were confirmed cases and 62 have been killed by the disease as of July 18, according to the Ministry of Health and Sports. Among the dead are one each from Dagon Myothit, Hmawbi and Twantay in Yangon Region.

From January to July 18, there are 216 influenza like illnesses found, among them 39 were A(H1N1), 12 were suffering A (H3N2) and 8 were suffering influenza B. Among the severe acute respiratory infection-SARI 527, there are 240 who suffered A(H1N1), 10 who suffered A (H3N2) and 11 suffered influenza B.

To prevent exposure to the virus, officials encourage the public to cover their nose and mouth while sneezing and coughing, get sound sleep, drink plenty of water, wash their hands frequently and avoid going outside during very hot times of the day.

H1N1 has broken out annually since 2009. H1N1 flu symptoms are the same as seasonal flu, including cough, fever, sore throat, stuffy or runny nose, body aches, headaches, chills and fatigue.

In 2017, 38 people died of the virus across Myanmar.
