Former Mandalay Region Chief Minister Dr. Zaw Myint Maung sentenced to 21 years in prison for 5 corruption charges

A court on Friday sentenced former Mandalay Region Chief Minister Dr. Zaw Myint Maung to 21 years in prison for 5 corruption charges.

“He was charged with 5 charges. Five years each for three charges and 3 years each for the rest 2 charges and it has to be served separately. So, he was sentenced in prison for 21 years. One year each for two charges concerning election. He was also sentenced 4 years previously and in total, he was sentenced to 27 years,” said a lawyer.

Dr. Zaw Myint Maung was charged with 5 corruption cases and U Zarni Aung was charged with 2 cases at the special court in Mandalay Obo Prison. 

 Aung Myay Tharzan Township court in Mandalay Region sentenced Dr. Zaw Myint Maung to 2 years in prison for alleged sedition under Section 505 (b) of the Penal Code and  2 years under Section 25/30 (a) of the Natural Disaster Management law, totalling 4 years.
