Five storms may occur in this rainy season in Bay of Bengal: DMH

A total of 11 low pressure areas may form in this rainy season in Bay of Bengal and five of them may intensify into depressions, according to the weather forecast for the rainy season made by the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology (DMH).

The pre-rainy season started from the time when the southwest monsoon wind enters Myanmar to the end of June. Four low pressure areas may occur in this period and two of them may intensify into depressions, it said.

Southwest monsoon wind may be moderate from strong in this period and rain will be expected below normal in Nay Pyi Taw, lower Sagaing, Mandalay, Magway, Bago, Yangon and Ayeyawady regions, Shan, Chin, Rakhine, Kayah, Kayin and Mon states and about normal in upper Sagaing and Taninthayi regions and  Kachin State, it said.

The mid-rainy season is from July 1 to the end of August. Four low pressure areas may occur in this period and two of them may intensify into depressions. Southwest monsoon wind may be moderate from strong in this period, it said.

Rain will be expected below normal in Bago, Yangon and Ayeyawady regions, Kayin and Mon states and about normal in Nay Pyi Taw, Sagaing, Mandalay, Magway and Taninthayi regions and Kachin, Chin, Shan, Rakhine and Kayah states, it said.

Late rainy season is from September 1 and the time when the southwest monsoon wind retreats from Myanmar. Three low pressure areas may occur in this period and one of them may intensify into depression. Southwest monsoon wind may be moderate from strong in this period, it said.

Rain or thundershowers will be likely about normal in Nay Pyi Taw, Sagaing, Mandalay, Magway, Bago, Yangon, Ayeyawady and Taninthayi regions, Kachin, Shan, Chin, Rakhine, Kayah, Kayin and Mon states, it said.

About 30 per cent of storms occurred in April and May in Bay of Bengal usually entered Myanmar.
